Positive Birth Story: #birthedonlockdown 2nd Baby Birth Centre

Positive Birth Story, 2nd Baby on a Birth Centre

At the time of positing, we are currently on lock down as the COVID-19 Pandemic sweeps the world. This has meant we have seen some changes to the way our maternity systems are operating, and natural it’s left lots of women feeling a little anxious and unsure of what to expect. But here’s the thing, the way we give birth still works in exactly the same way! And the opportunity for truly positive birth experiences is still there.

Our new campaign #birthedonlockdown aims to share these stories with you so you go forward into your birth feeling reassured, confident and ready to have the positive experience you deserve.

Over to Jessica for her story…

My little George came into the world on the 23rd March at 8.16pm weighing 7lb10.

I'm still in total disbelief that he's here and that I DID IT!! With my first son I thought right from the beginning of pregnancy that I wouldn't be able to give birth without an epidural so thats the path I chose however when I found out I was pregnant with my second I discovered Birth-Ed and I'm so happy that I did. I found all of these tools to prove that actually I might be able to do this the way I want too.

Anyways my waters broke at home when I was 40+5 so we made our way into our birth center and I had my heart set on a water birth. My surges began at around 6pm so I started on the gas and air and practising my up breathing techniques whilst listening to my positive affirmations. They really started to intensify and I wanted to get into the pool however there wasn't one available on the birth center so my midwife arranged for me to go along to delivery suite where they had a pool room waiting for me. I got into the pool and felt instant relief (it was amazing)! I only lasted around 35/40 mins in the pool before I decided it was the right time for me to have the pethidine injection as I could feel I was holding my body to tense and didn't feel like I was in control. I had the pethidine injection and chose to have an examination to see how far along I was, I was 5cm. However in the space of 45 mins my midwife could see his head and it was time to push. I practically just breathed through every urge to push and my body just knew what to do, it honestly felt so empowering! After only 11 minutes of pushing George was placed straight onto my chest and I just screamed I DID IT!

I can't thank Megan enough, I got the birth I wanted and I honestly couldn't be more proud of myself!
